Assignment Overview: Your group is tasked with creating a Power Map that visually represents the power dynamics and relationships within your groups chosen field of study. This map should identify key stakeholders, power structures, and policies related to this issue. Additionally, you are required to revise an interview protocol based on insights gained from your Power Map and learnings on survey design in the course.
Part 1: Power Map
- Complete Steps 1-7 of the Power Map for your issue
- Identification of Stakeholders: Identify 6+ key stakeholders within this issue, including individuals, groups, and institutions who act as proponents, opponents, advocates, targets/decision-makers, and/or allies.
- Identify Policy Levers: Identify and briefly describe 2+ enacted laws or policy proposals which currently do or could influence this issue at the local, state, federal or international level, visually connecting these policies back to their respective decision-making body (search relevant keywords in databases like https://legiscan.com/CALinks to an external site., Congress.gov). On the 2+ policies, add a comment to the document with a relevant link to the policy and a one paragraph description of what it does/proposes to do.
Part 2: Revised Interview Protocol
- Revision Justification: Based on your Power Map and lessons learned throughout the course, identify potential biases, redundancies or gaps in your initial protocol using track changes to the original document. Explain in comments how the Power Map or lessons in the course informed these insights and how the revision is expected to improve data collection and analysis.
- Revised Protocol: On a separate page, present a clean, revised version of your interview protocol, including the preamble and closing. The revisions should aim to address the biases and gaps identified, ensuring a more holistic and sensitive approach to data collection.
Submission Guidelines:
- Your submission should include the Power Map (visual) 2) track changed interview protocol, and 3) clean interview protocol (max 10 pages single spaced).
- Collaborative work is encouraged, but each group member must contribute significantly.
